3D PRINTED STRANDBEESTS

Written by Lee King

This has to be one of the coolest uses for a 3D printer that I’ve seen. Theo Jansen is a Dutch artist who is known for creating gigantic creatures out of PVC that can walk on their own. He’s taken the same structures, shrunk them down, and 3D printed them to create the 3D Printed Strandbeests ($56-$113). There are four of these creatures available in various sizes which your can purchase from Shapeways. There are also two propeller kits available, and when attached they allow your Strandbeest to move with a little air from your mouth, fan, or blower.  Check out the video below the features both the full-sized and miniature Strandbeests.
