DETROIT ELECTRIC SP:01

Written by Lee King

Detroit car companies are making the slow climb back to profitability. But it’s the newly resurrected Detroit Electric that is making the headlines. Detroit Electric has come out with its first electric sports car the Detroit Electric SP:01 ($135,000). The SP:01 is a rear-wheel drive fully electric sports car with a 200 bhp U.S. made electric motor. Its top speed is 155 mph and it will reach 62 mph in 3.7 seconds. The SP:01 has a driving range of roughly 180 miles. Albert Lam, who previously worked for Lotus, kickstarted the company and it’s easy to see how much the SP:01 was inspired by Lotus. The current price is steep, but Detroit Electic will release a range of car models in the future and I’m sure we’ll see those prices go down as the company gets its footing.
