FALSE BAY WRITER’S CABIN

Written by Lee King

So we just did an article on the beautifully designed Sol Duc Cabin ($TBA) which closes up via huge metal panels on barn door sliders. We now bring you the False Bay Writer’s Cabin ($TBA) also designed by Olson Kundig Architects. Instead of a hunting and fishing cabin, this one serves as a private writing retreat and guest cottage for their clients. Surrounded by wildlife it is a perfect retreat. The cabin is basically a glass house with 10 foot high windows, surrounded by three wooden slat decks and topped with an inverted hip roof with extended overhangs. The decks can be raised to serve as shutters via a system of hydraulic winches, wire rope, pivoting sheaves and lead blocks. Inside you’ll find over 500 square feet of living space which includes a glazed room and a back of cabin area housing a small bathroom and kitchenette.
