KYOTO STOOL BY THE TWIG CO.

Written by Lee King

The Japanese believe a tree acts as a link between the heavens above and the earth below. These trees can get a second life as furniture which brings that same feeling to our homes. The Kyoto Stool by The Twig Co. ($175) was designed in this spirit. In creating this stool they’ve paid meticulous attention to details through simplicity, waste-reduction, and joinery. They start each stool from a large piece of lumber which is dissected, hand-planed and shaped into the individual pieces. The stools can be purchased in either solid walnut or cherry, and each is hand-finished in tung oil.
