LYTRO ILLUM LIGHT-FIELD CAMERA

Written by Lee King

You remember Lytro’s original camera. It looked like one of those keychain viewers you would get at the amusement park. Although it looked like a toy it held some amazing technology that allowed you to focus an image after it was processed using Lytro’s special software. The Lytro Illum ($1599) builds on that tech and has new looks to boot. The Illum looks like a standard camera with a telephoto lens. The Illum features cutting edge optics, a larger sensor and a lens that is lighter, has a larger zoom range and a bigger aperture than comparable conventional cameras. You can now pre-order the Lytro Illum on their website for $1499. It will be going on sale for full retail on July 15th.
