RESSENCE TYPE 5 DIVING WATCH

Written by Lee King

We’ve previously taken a look at the Ressence Type 1 and the Ressence Type 3. The company has now released its first Diving Watch, the Ressence Type 5 Diving Watch ($TBA). Ressence says their diver is completely readable underwater, regardless of viewing angle – zero mirror effect. To achieve this level of readability, all 142 components of the mechanical watch are immersed in 37. ml of oil. The oil cancels out the watches Total Internal Reflection, allowing for complete legibility no matter the angle of view.

Most dive watches over-engineer their cases to protect against the pressure of water depth. This results in a bulky over-sized case, and thick glass. Because liquid cannot be compressed, the oil in the Type 5 compensates for any water pressure, allowing for the use of a lightweight titanium case. The complete watch weighs a mere 87 grams.

The Type 5 has no crown. It uses a proprietary case-back to set the time and for winding. With the Type 5, they’ve also included a locking mechanism for the locking and compression of the gasket.

We’ll update this post with pricing as soon as it’s available.
