SHOKAN HOUSE
The Shokan House by Rafael Viñoly Architects ($NFS) may be the baddest pad on the planet. I know I get excited about my architecture, but this home is truly a bachelor’s dream come true. In looking at the images, it is hard to find a single mistake the firm made. From the expansive open floor plan to the majestic views, to the extreme minimalist mid-century furnishings. This home is simply flawless.
The home is embedded into the side of a hill and sits on a monolithic concrete base. Sitting on top of the based are incredible spances of tinted glass. The outside looks cold and corporate and belays the comfort exuded by the interior.
As you enter the main room, your breath is immediately taken away from the sheer volume of the space. Looking ahead, you have a fireplace and stairs to your left that lead to the upper platform. As you walk up the stairs you must turn to see the views. When surrounded by scenery like this who needs a TV. Additional features include a vestibule, three bedrooms, kitchen, and library. Walnut cabinets that again hint at the designers love for the mid-century wrap the inside of this beautiful home.
I’ve found no information on pricing, but I’m saving my pennies. 😉
