The Steam Deck is Finally Taking Reservations
It looks like the Nintendo Switch might have some competition next month. Steam is finally releasing their much-anticipated Steamdeck ($399+). They say and I quote “Steam Deck is the most powerful, full-featured gaming handheld in the world.”Now those are some big promises. But does it live up to the hype? Well based on the specs, it looks pretty good. The Steam Deck features a custom APU created by AMD specifically for handheld gaming. It has a Zen 2 + RDNA 2 architecture to provide the best gaming experience available. This is the same architecture used in the latest Xbox and PS5 gaming systems.
Additional features include a 7″ multi-touch display, 2 trackpads, six-axis gyro, triggers, and analog thumbsticks. It comes with 256GM of NVMe SSD Storage or 512GB of NVMe SSD on the more expensive models. You can even add a MicroSD card to extend your library further. The 40Wh battery provides up to 3 hours of play. If you’re just using the browser the battery will last 7-8 hours.
The USB-C port is multipurpose allowing you to charge, and add peripherals. But that’s not all the ports you get. You also get 3 standard USBs, 1 x HDMI, and 1 x Display Port.
Just from the specs, this thing seems pretty amazing. Right now all three models are available for reservation with shipping expected sometime in the second quarter.
