It has been said that there is nothing lovelier than a tree, and Bryan Nash Gill, the Connecticut-based artist aims to prove this with his stunning book, Woodcut ($23). By creating large-scale, relief prints from cross sections of trees, Nash Gill reveals the sublime power that is locked inside those arboreal rings. He creates patterns that are not only beautiful but are also year-by-year timelines of lives of these damaged or fallen logs. The wood used he has rescued himself from the neighboring lands around his studio before extracting and preparing blocks of various tree species including maple, ash, oak, willow and spruce before creating his unique prints.
